Originally by: Tuttotus Just bought a Cruiser (Osprey). I find it once a Frigate gets real close, I canĘt hit for crap, I am using Rail gun, should I go blasters (Hybrids)?
Can a Cruisers use small weapons?
Are medium weapons the way to go since I can use them or are they situational.
Is an Osprey a good choice or should have I stuck with the Coromant?
I do have the skills to use both , pretty decent.
First, an Osprey is for mining or healing, not shooting. Have a look at the ship description specificly the bonuses it receives.
Try a Moa if you want a turret cruiser.
A cruiser can easily fit small turrets. However, it does not receive any bonus to them. In the case of the Osprey that is not significant as it doesn't get a bonus to any weapon type, but that is a reason to use a different ship, not a reason to fit small turrets on an Osprey.
You are probably better off in a Coromant if you are hunting frigates. That is what the Coromant is made for. Once you start hunting cruisers, have a look at getting a cruiser yourself.
Drones are useful for mopping up frigates once they get in close. As you move up to larger ships, drones will become more significant in that role.
Small turrets have much better tracking than medium turrets. Not only is the base tracking better, but the signature resolution is effectively equivalent to a tracking multiplier, giving small turrets an additional 3.125x advantage over medium turrets.
I found medium turrets could take out NPC frigs quite easily at a range. Considering they have a much longer range, it's really easy to snipe NPCs from 40km+ away (even without Sharpshooter).
Of course, I have both on my Moa; smalls for close-up frigs, and mediums for sniping far away ones (and pulling aggro on them). Missiles are great for the NPCs that are so close even turrets can't hit them since they will ALWAYS hit, at least as long as they can't outrun it. ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |
